Address Book

I’ve been in desperate need of a new address book for months…okay…years.  I’m not referring to the electronic kind stored in your computer, phone or PDA.  Nope, I’m talking about the old-fashioned kind that takes up space in the drawer conveniently located within an arm’s reach of the telephone…a drawer usually known as a junk drawer.

Unfortunately, when I remember I need the new book I’m in my home using the old one…I never remember when I’m in a store.  That is, until this past Thanksgiving when I was in my absolutely favorite Barnes and Noble, a piece of heaven a mere 2 miles from my Dad’s house in MA.

I wandered both levels of the store, ran my fingers along countless book spines and leafed through nameless books on dozens of topics before I found myself face-to-face with the section containing journals, sketchpads and address books.  My eyes scanned rows and rows address books before they finally landed upon the perfect one!

This little guy was screaming in an artsy-fartsy way that it desperately wanted to take up space in my carry-on bag and relocate to Southern California.  It spoke to both the writer and the artist in me and its words were met with an immediate decision on my part that carry-on space would absolutely be found.

Once inside this treasure one is treated to colorful letter pages, letter tabs and interesting quotes…and plenty of room for contact information.

Don’t these photos carry on a conversation with your creative soul?

Fast forward to So. Cal. and some time set aside for transferring information from the old address book to the new.  As I looked at all the scribbled out contact information in the old book, my Mom’s advice came flying back to me, and I followed it to a T.

List the person’s name in ink but add the balance of the information in pencil so that it can be easily updated as needed.  Moms are so smart!!!

Sage advice from Mom + an awesome new address book that continues to speak to me = one happy lady!

I don’t think I have had a “written” address book since I got my first computer back in the 80′s. How well I remember all those scratched off addresses and numbers. Mom’s do come up with some wonderful solutions, don’t they!

Barnes & Noble, you say? I’m going to run over there next chance I get. I am an address book person too, even though there are so many electronic options. And I am in desperate need of a new one too! I love this one!
